It looked like a Turing-Test-for-kids and was a huge hit in the 1980's.

Bite your tongue; Teddy Ruxpin was wonderful! My family still quotes some of the tapes/books. "Mud glups, gluppity-glup!"
Maybe not particularly intellectual, but fun to say.

Noooo.. Teddy Ruxpin definitely creeped me out as a kid, or at least the ad did.

a kid in my family had one...we'd try stickiing metal tapes in him to listen to him sing them.
