JAPRsays...the overuse and abuse of tasers is disgusting. a great non-lethal weapon when used properly, but this is unfortunately not always the case.
theaceofclubzsays...To me, tasers are clearly less lethal not non lethal. So there should be a clear and present danger to officers or bystanders before they are deployed. The answer rests not in eliminating tasers from law enforcement but in prosecuting those who use them recklessly in the same way that we would charge anyone with aggravated assault, and removing them from their positions of power.
joedirtsays...Any officer that deploys taser in non-life threatening situations should be treated as if they fired their handgun into a crowd or beat a suspect for 5 mins with a baton.
To treat multiple taser cycles as anything less than torture and attempted murder is criminal. I can even "understand" using a taser once, but multiple cycles? And what is with the traffic enforcement usage on women and teenagers who present no threat. The militarization of police can only be viewed as fascist desensitization to promote the coming round up of dissenters.
MarineGunrocksays...Ignoring the conspiracy theories there, I am going to say that they should indeed be able to fire them in non-life threatening situations. Any situation where there is the threat of bodily harm is sufficient.
