Takeshi Kitano Teaches!

Hat tip from sixfeet. Open letter to the admins who killed the sixfeet post: Please let the lawyers police the site for Sonny Bono violations or, if such a post makes every hair on your back rise like the spines of the quivering porcupine, then send a canned takedown notice to Google yourself.

We all know that this is temporary. Why can't the community enjoy the goodness?

I thought the prevailing wisdom was that movies and tv shows that attract takedown notices should be procured via BitTorrent and not posted here.
Also it's been mentioned by Dag that posts in breach of the guidelines should be discarded but we shouldn't go on a crusade to get the ones that slipped by.

But then there doesn't seem to be a clear policy that everyone is following.

I have enjoyed the access to full-length documentaries and other obscure films here. Provision #4 only singles out TV shows which may be partly justifed because the TV shows may not have completed the natural secondary distribution cycle via syndication and DVD release. Nonetheless, there are plenty of BBC full length TV presentations here too.

But for Battle Royale, Pi, and all of the full-length films and documentaries, the distribution cycle is complete and it is effectively out in the new public commons. It simply should not be our responsibility to enforce a copywrong. Battle Royale or any of the others can disappear from the GooTube in 2 hours if the distribution lawyers want to enforce the rights. Arguably, the documentaries on this site need even more protection against full-length publication because they are, by nature, smaller companies with much less money to pay lazy takedown lawyers.

But since the content is not hosted here, we should enjoy all Siftable things that are in the public tubes (however briefly) without creating arcane rules and exceptions based on content or preferences.

RUN!

Only good ones. I wouldn't mind watching an entire episode of WKRP right now.

I somewhat understand why the TV shows ban was instituted in the beginning. At the same time, any TV show network or production house that is likely to have content sifted here also has the means to remove their content quickly from video hosting sites. It is really an issue that will sort itself out without involvement by the admins. If admins are looking to cozy themselves up with Conde Nast or Richard Branson, though, then I can see where it would create some difficulties.

But when you discard Beat Takeshi, you have discarded me.
