Meh, I dunno. A ton of people and travelers in town: protestors, lots of media types, whatever (the Republicans themselves, naturally). This is a little immature and sensationalist even by TYT standards. Granted, it could be interesting to compare the usage changes against similar sized conventions in Tampa or other places at different times, but this is pretty juvenile as I doubt there is any real statistical significance to this given how small the numbers are.

Almost every person I know from the south, gay and straight alike, is conservative. I think politics has more to do with region than sexual orientation.

how do we know that gay people aren't more active during conventions? it's correlational, not causative, data. we don't know if those uses are directly attributable to the convention.

Its a correlation alright. The GOP has more closeted gay guys driven to anonymous sexual encounters than its correlate, a party that accepts gay men in its ranks. The Dems don't have to resort to bathroom stall wide-stance foot taps.

If it had been a Democrats party conference instead of Republican then the mainstream media would've been all over it and you can guarantee that any immaturity or sensationalism would have been ten-fold over what you see here. At least TYT is cool with LGBT whereas mainstream media would be tutting and frowning at every opportunity.

I doubt that. As an outsider, US news seems as polarized as US politics seems so I would assume that Fox would laugh at the DNC and NBC would laugh at the RNC. However, that aside, this is simply a better story. Liberal, pro-gay rights party has gay people? So? Conservative, pro-bigot rights party has gay people? Scandal!

Which is missing the point. That it would be worse if it was them, even if this was true, doesn't make this any less smug.

I wonder how many people use this app for blackmail?
