Steamboy (スチームボーイ, Suchīmubōi?) is a Japanese animated film, produced by Sunrise, and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, his second major anime release, following Akira. The film premiered across Japan on July 17, 2004. It was the 2004 recipient of Best Animated Feature Film at the Catalonian International Film Festival. Let's hear it for absolutism. Care to comment further on why you didn't like it?

Though I probably wouldn't recommend it for everyone, I happened to like it for what it was: a cute little film with steampunk. It was more like a Disney film than a typical Japanese animated film.

I think if you go into it expecting something on the level of Akira, you will be very disappointed. "Cute" is a good word to describe it. It's enjoyable enough (if somewhat overlong), but certainly -- it is no Akira.

It was poorly written to the point of being abysmal. Nobody with any taste in film at all could sit through the first half of that movie and not start glancing at their watch wondering when it was going to end.

The animation was very good, true. But the damn thing seemed like it was never going to end.
