Extra-terrestial creation of life AND evolution thrown in a single game? A game that pretty much 'teaches' these subjects to kids? I really hadn't thought about these aspects of what seems will be a really great game, but oh my, I'm afraid they might receive even more criticism than GTA has had to suffer from some crazies...

i don't see how the game would get ruined by it. but there'll probably be a side debate over how it relates to reality.

i would hope that they have more of an explanation behind how life started out, as leaving it to a comet (and that's the end of any further explanation) is childish/primitive.
Hopefully it'll show how elements go on to form organic compounds and then at some point you have competition and the whole process starts..

Actually, Will Wright himself has pointed out that this game isn't really evolution, it's Intelligent Design, because the player is the creator, intelligently manipulating the design of these creatures as they advance...

I don't think that'll stop creationists from hand-wringing about it, but it might blunt some of the controversy a bit.

Fellow sifters there is hope!! The spore creature editor demo is released on JUNE 17! A smaller version is available for free via download while a more robust demo is available to buy for 10$. And before someone says anything bad about paying money for a demo, shame on you! They are giving out a large portion of their game LONG before the game is released. I will GLADLY pay money for this gem, which is the very core of their game.
