Toronto gets lampooned in this mockumentary promo on the Mercer Report, creation of Rick Mercer who plays the scruffy man who has to get his daughter, somehow, to Montessori class.
Everyone loves to hate the country's capital, largest or most important cities. Paris, NYC, Washington, London, Toronto - and I presume Tokyo too, but I've never asked a Japanese person from the countryside if it's true in Asia too.
I'm glad the city's able to make fun of itself this way, but in all seriousness, I had no more than 2 or 3 snow days in my entire LIFE living in Toronto, whereas people in the country and in smaller towns have missed days and weeks. This is both due to the fact that Toronto lies outside the "snow belt" that surrounds the city partly thanks to the 'buffer' effect from our position on the north side of Lake Ontario, and because we live in a more compact area, so you can usually trudge through the snow to school or work by public transit if you're unable to drive there.
All bets are off for people living in the suburban ring of cities around downtown of course, but I'm quite proud of our ability to withstand the treacherous snowflake.

LuketheDriftersays...I'm sorry, I must be a bad Canadian, but John Stewart and The Daily Show are ten times funnier than Rick Mercer and his weekly attempts at comedy.
For one thing, as its name suggests, the Daily Show comes out every day, and it's consistently funny. While it takes Rick Mercer and his team of writers a week to come up with highly imaginative clips like Snow in Toronto. Where do they come up with stuff?
Drachen_Jagersays...Well I have to agree, TDS is funnier but you've got to give a lot of credit to American politics for that. Canada has some messed up stuff going on with a preppy who never outgrew his high school social stigma as PM but, messed up as he is Harper doesn't hold a candle to Bush's lunacy and the insanity keeps going a lot more strongly at the lower levels too.
cyberscythesays...In case y'all didn't know, there was a time a few years ago when the City of Toronto actually called in the army to help shovel snow. This was when we had an idiot for mayor, though.
Kruposays...Yeah, we lack the comedic gold mine that is America these days. And yes, that was Toronto's darkest hour (I mean when Whacko McNutjobMan was elected mayor).
