Forced to flee their home city of Gao after it fell into the hands of Islamic fundamentalists who banned all music, these four Jimmy Hendrix fans founded the Songhoy Blues while in exile in the south of Mail, in Bamako. Their first album is, therefore, called Music in Exile.
