I read a story about a guy in Iraq who killed one of these baddies, only to walk outside and see about 8 of them all staring at him!

Fortunately these guys are drawn to heat, because the desert is cold most of their food generates some sort of heat signature, and to vibrations in the ground. You can find them almost all the time on the road.

Some of the desert spiders can roll them selves into a ball and roll down the sand dunes! So cool...but i would run if i saw one!

i was under the impression that solpugids have the common name 'camel spider', as they frequently dwell in arid areas, can grow rather large, have a desert brown coloration reminiscent of a camel... and also you can ride on them.

Yeah, that'll help me sleep tonight.
