Slavoj Žižek - The Reality of the Virtual

Slavoj Žižek is one of the most distinguished and politically engaged thinkers of our time. In this tour de force filmed lecture, he lucidly and compellingly reflects on belief - which takes him from Father Christmas to democracy - and on the various forms that belief takes, drawing on Lacanian categories of thought. In a radical dismissal of today's so called post-political era, he mobilizes the paradox of universal truth urging us to dare to enact the impossible. It is a characteristic virtuoso performance, moving promiscuously from subject to subject but keeping the larger argument in view.

Tolerance becoming intolerance through unnecessary fears of harassment, etc. As well as the capitalist utopian idea upon relationships that most young couples are building and organizing is most definately, as he said, a major problem in this country today. Tolerance is not acceptance etc etc. In effect its actually making things more difficult for any young people (couples or not).

Going to school getting a job, make money, its all the same and it seems so impossible to do anything but just that! When really its not, you must accept and open yourself up to all aspects of life, the fantastic AS WELL AS the terrible.

Good sift!
