Fiver2HORRAY for falwell being dead.=)
swampgirlIt's a bit weak. It would have been better if there was more accounts from some of the kids that were forced to go. "Torture" might be a bit misplaced here...brainwashed, manipulated would be a better word maybe. These parents are definitely setting themselves up for resentment and estrangement from their children.
mysdrialHmm, the long term effects of forcing people to act 'straight' when they're not are likely horrible and far reaching. Just look at Ted Haggerd and his compatriots to see the messes that result.
gluoniumI chose the word torture over mere branwashing because here, the brainwashing includes being taught to hate who you know you really are and to force yourself to reject and suppress who you really are or face eternal damnation. Doing this to kids (predictably) often results in suicide. If that doesn't fit the definition of psycological torture, I'm not sure what does. The people who engage in this form of child abuse, in my opinion, belong in prison.
choggie"taught to hate who you know you really are and to force yourself to reject and suppress who you really are or face eternal damnation"
dunno man, that's as perception-based a box, as this poor kid has to suffer.....can we recover, eventually, from our own, boxes????
choggieto elaborate...Should it be legal to force children into "ex-gay" torture?

How loaded with perception and rhetoric, is that????
Get it man???, Same program, different perspective....
choggieand if you could make some law to fit YOUR, perception-based reality....well, then, Hitler is on the fucking loose, once again.....
gluoniumthree separate posts and no, I still have no idea what you're saying nor the motivation to painstakingly decode said ramblings.
EMPIREsays...Don't worry. It's normal not understanding what choggie writes. And you're also right. It's not worth trying to understand it.
