Sebastian Thrun: Google's driverless car

YouTube Description:

http://www.ted.com Sebastian Thrun helped build Google's amazing driverless car, powered by a very personal quest to save lives and reduce traffic accidents. Jawdropping video shows the DARPA Challenge-winning car motoring through busy city traffic with no one behind the wheel, and dramatic test drive footage from TED2011 demonstrates how fast the thing can really go.

I commend his motives, but day to day living is a risk in itself. People die, people will always die, but with modern medicine and safety features, die older. I don't believe in; "if it saves one life it's worth it." Sometimes, when the price is too high, it isn't. Do we really want a risk free life, where machines protect us from ourselves? Well, it seems that's where we are heading. More and more freedoms will be taken away because we are seen as too dumb to handle our own lives. Life is for living, there will always be risks. Maybe some day we will all be able to stay in bed and let the machines do everything for us, that's about as risk free as it gets, but it's not living. Be safe, be careful, but, be alive.
