Scissor Sister songs are known for their mixture of wit and tragedy, this song is actually based on the deep platonic love shared by one of the band members for his best friend in real life. The real Mary died of a brain aneurysm in April 2006, news that devastated members of the band.
The video for the single was released in October 2004 and was considered a curio by fans. It was seen as a spoof of Rapunzel and other children's fairy tales; an owl makes an appearance in the video. The music video was produced by Don Bluth. Scissor Sisters contacted him after recalling fond memories of an animated sequence in Xanadu.
Scissor Sisters are an American band who formed in 2001, whose style draws from disco, glam rock, pop and the gay-club scene of New York City. The group were named after a sex position between two women, and their initial full name was 'Dead Lesbian and the Fibrillating Scissor Sisters'.

deputydogsays...Loved this album when it first came out, slightly sick of it now due to immense over-exposure on the radio and TV. Definite upvote tho.
