Ralph Nader talks about Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

Ralph Nader says he will run in the election if Clinton wins, among other interesting things.

We wouldn't be in Iraq if this egomaniac hadn't run in 2000. There are thousands upon thousands of innocent people dead that would be alive today if Nader hadn't run in 2000. We wouldn't have had the disastrous Bush years if it weren't for this nut case. And now he's thinking of doing it again? He can do no good by running.

I like a lot of what Nader says here and his assesment of Hillary is spot on. However in terms of Obama i do think he IS playing it safe and not taking a stand on things but i think Nader is a little unfair in the sense that on the Medicare thing he pretty much says he needs to focus on everything thats wrong and fix it. I mean it sounds easy on paper but to execute is a lot harder, and maybe Obama has thought of these things and might try to do what he can but to hold him to a level of perfection is to much. I also disagree with his assessment that if Obama came out tomorrow with clear definite stances on all key issues his popularity and votes would soar. Nader does that and he has failed to win the mainstream. Im not saying its right im just saying that American voters are addicted to the mainstream vague generality of things. Only on rare occasions does a truly passionate in your face candidate win over the American people, most of the time it scares them away.

A single-payer system of health care would be a disaster for providers who would essentially be told what they're going to be paid (way below what is fair and often doesn't even cover the cost of treating the patient) and lead to a ratcheting down of reimbursement to the point that you're not going to get decent people going into medicine. And don't start with me about that crap "you should go into medicine because you love caring for people, not to make money" - unless you're going to pay the doctor's tuition bills, STFU.

People point to the administrative cost of medicare at 3% and laud how "efficient" it is. Bullshit. Every medical office and clinic in the nation employs a small army of people to handle the paperwork required by medicare - yes, indeed, stuff is pretty cheap when you make other people do it for free.

One of the biggest factors that increased the cost of medical care in this country was the intercalation of a management caste into the health care delivery system under the guise of "managed care". This amounted in no true savings or increased efficiency, but rather allowed MBA's to get a piece of the pie while providing nothing of any value to the system.

Sorry for the mini-rant...
