grinterThis is a really serious issue. ..and as sad as the human story is, the problem is bigger than that. 60-70% of the primary forest in the Peruvian Amazon is under threat. Alan Garcia, the president of Peru, has suspended constitutional protection of this area to open it up to foreign timber, mining, oil, and agricultural use. He is responding to obligations in the free trade agreement with the US; so this is not just a Peruvian issue.
