Overcoming panic when your engine quits

This pilot did a pretty good job (10 seconds) of figuring out his engine was gone and he was landing in a field. Looks like it he put it down in a soybean field.

Only made one clear mistake--squawked 7500 (hijacking) rather than emergency at first.
And never said "Mayday, Mayday, Mayday" or another clear phrase that I could make out to establish a clear emergency.

But maybe I missed something.
No idea what the fault was but: zero oil pressure and a stopped engine...doesn't sound like he just ran out of gas.
