Napalmsays...That woman really pis**s me off!
BoneyDsays...It seems both parties are marred by stupid speeches in this affair.
Sherman, after having accepted Davis' apology for her remarks, misspoke by using the word 'negro' recently. Anyways, it landed him on a subsequent Worst Persons in the World list.
Edit: See his response to the 'white journalists' assertions on his (somewhat cluttered) website.
Guardian-Xsays...Bravo!
jwraysays..."negro" is obsolete, but it's not nearly as offensive as "nigger". "negro" has a history of being the formal english word for people of subsaharan African descent, used by both whites and blacks, and it literally means "black" in several romance languages, while "nigger" is the derivative racial slur.
Besides, "african-american" is too long when "black" would suffice, and "negro" is just the spanish word for "black". So there's nothing wrong with what he said, except that it might offend a small percentage of black people. Most people would just consider the usage of "negro" quaint and outdated but innocuous.
So I think Olberman's demand of an apology is unwarranted in this case. He's being a pompous windbag without a cause.
