HaldaugI thought this was a nice gesture from the Norwegian Police. I'd like to note, though, that this video was posted by a conspiracy theorist blog called Gates of Vienna who were one of the inspirations behind Breiviks "manifesto".
dannym3141This whole thing is just crazy. Some people in another country make a video and suddenly a police officer from norway has to apologise?
Freedom of speech is as sacred in the west as a prophet is in the middle-east. The only one who should be apologising is the maker of the video if he wants to.
hpqpThis is sad, pathetic and frightening. Is this ever done in synagogues, or churches, or temples, when some provocative or propagandist material against those religions is published? No. But because of the violent bullying of crazed Islamic crowds (incensed by hate-mongering mollahs) the Norwegian police (and politicians all over the "civilised" world) thought it necessary to go and publicly distance themselves from an insignificant piece of propaganda and (here specifically) ask that the Muslims keep their acts within the purview of the law.
I would find that last point highly offensive to the Muslims, but when you look at what happened over a few cartoons far less antagonistic than the anti-Islam film, I can see why it would seem necessary to some.
chingalerahpqp has a similar observation of Norway's posturing, the insult to thinking Muslims the world over, etc.
"We would like to apologize.......for having to plead with those of you....with more education and a less....."traditional" Muslim worldview....to please keep the throwback contingent of assholes and douchebags who are hopelessly developmentally disabled within your ranks....IN CHECK.....and make sure that they don't break shit or burn something or kill somebody....please...and maybe teach hem how to interpret a literary work properly and maybe not takle what their fucking mulllah says for God's own truth....Shit like that, please....Allah Akbar, & Salaam a lickem'."
A10anisThis is unconscionable appeasement. All it does is reinforce their fiefdom ideas, that they should be treated as a special group, and be given special treatment. It is scarily reminiscent of Chamberlain's stance with Hitler: "Please, do as you wish, but don't start a war." Leaders should be more like Churchill and say to these people: "This country has laws based upon democratic consensus, not theocracy. And to those of you set on violence we say, we will come down on you with the full force of the laws which are in place to protect those residing in this country, a country you have decided to live in."
criticalthudsays...if you can't bend a little, you'll never get people to bend for you.
if you can't at least try to see things from other people's perspectives, no one will try to see from yours.
what norway seems to grasp is that to create change within islam, you have to work with the whole, not the fringe radical. and it will be from internal change that real change occurs.
