vaire2ubesays...a civil service component that is nonmilitary isnt the worst idea, but he should formulate more complete thoughts and then make a speech .. and also go away
dystopianfuturetodaysays...Newt is a master of manipulation. The way he smoothly piles begged question upon begged question here is impressive. If you have some time and are willing to suffer mild nausea, check out the Thanksgiving Value Voters summit where Newt plays the Evangelicals like a Stradivarius and rockets to the front of the pack in the polls the next day.

gharkjokingly says...Sounds fair, it can't be any worse than the Chinese prisoners forced to do 12 hour gold farming shifts in World of Warcraft.
Also, I would like to think that if I worked hard enough for the man, I too could one day be a master janitor - I would be like a Janitor 2.0 and have a business card with my name.
wax66says...I don't like Newt, wouldn't vote for him if you paid me tons of cash.
However, this isn't as bad of an idea as it may seem. You don't mandate it, you ALLOW it. Allow students to sign up for janitorial duty, pay them a decent minimum wage, even give them an hour during school with which to perform their duties, or an hour before or after school. Allow the head janitor to also fire them if they suck, and hire outside help if resources are low. Make it a maximum of 5 or so hours a week per student.
I see nothing wrong with this.
Crosswordssays...Creating wage equality and promoting class mobility by firing those fat cat school janitors and replacing them with children. Why that's so brilliant its retarded!!
tyrellmojohnstonsays...HOW is it a bad thing to come up with ideas that can potentially teach our youth the value of an honest day's work by giving them ways to (legally) invest in and add value to the very schools in which they attend?
There's a pretty good chance you've completely missed his point. Disguising a use-case as a general rule is just a cover for what's obviously a disdain for Gingrich the man. Hate him or not, he's smart enough to devastate Obama in any debate with his words. (It's Gingrich's unlikability that would eventually be his undoing, imo. He's nowhere NEAR as "cool" as Obama and voters totally love "cool". Not as handsome as Romney, either. People seem to dig that too.)
And as a side note, there's a pretty damn good chance that giving this video the title "Newt Gingrich wants child janitors?" is hopelessly mired in bias.
No one's marching children into factories here.

Nebosukesays...A competing idea would be having the schools be managed nationally to even out inequalities in funding.
Winstonfield_Pennypackersays...He's nowhere NEAR as "cool" as Obama and voters totally love "cool".
Totally disagree. Obama 'cool'? Since when?
The man looks like Soupy Sales, but with even bigger ears. He's a scrawny, pencil-necked gooney bird who looks less 'cool' than a white guy trying to bust a move.
Obama isn't cool. He's cold. The man is condescending, insulting, and unsympathetic to anyone he meets who doesn't fall over themselves to kiss his butt. The second anyone says anything that disagrees or contradicts him, his face tightens up and you can just see the daggers stabbing out his eyes.
Obama 'cool'... Barf. Could not disagree more stridently on this point.
vaire2ubesays...Weird i thought tyrellmo was winstonfield before i saw the names, and lo here is winston to back himself up...
MycroftHomlzjokingly says...I agree, let's just give up trying to teach math and science to poor people. They will never amount to anything.
tyrellmojohnstonsays...Hehehe sorry, but in an OCEAN of old ugly fat white guys in suits, he's extraordinarily "cool". He's young, black, thin, tall, he bumps fists with his fashion-savvy young wife, has a smooth talking bassy voice, walks shirtless in Hawaii and gets papparazzi photos of his pecs...
Admitting that doesn't mean you like him or his policies or want to make out with him, but to deny this fact would be just silly. The man has a level of "cool" not often seen in politicians. Clinton had a bit of that swagger, too.

quantumushroomsays...The left has no solutions for the nightmare of expensive, failing government schools. Why would they? This is what they want. Power. Control. More Democrats, please! No need for math or English, just 'X' this ballot.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...Not sure how putting janitors out of a job would 'teach kids the value of labor'. Seems like it would send the opposite message, that labor has no value and can be easily fucked over by the wealthy and powerful.
conansays...this is so wrong on so many levels i just wish i was more proficient in expressing my opinion in english, argh.
Crosswordssays...He's unlikable because of his palpable disdain for anyone who earns less than $50k a year. He's unlikable because he insists income inequality exists because we don't let the poor send their kids to work. He's unlikable because he blames some of the lowest paid people doing some of the least desirable jobs for creating poverty. If Newt was sailing around the middle of the ocean in his yacht and came across someone barely treading water he'd throw them a brick and tell them to swim their lazy asses to shore.
This has nothing to do with encouraging students to take an interest in their school, its about blaming the poor for being poor because they don't work hard enough.
