New Cop Car Designed For Cops, By Cops

It was designed to jump curbs, safely detain criminals, be fuel efficient (40% more than current cruisers), and detect biological, chemical and radiation threats. In total, it has over 100 new features specifically requested by officers.

+1 point for being cool, -.5 points for use of "post 9-11" and "homeland" buzzwords, -.5 points for being an official press release video staged to look like a real news report.

while interesting idea, it does look like the primary purpose of people that created this car was "huge government contract".
if there are ~800k cops in US, i'd guess there's ~400k cars. that's a pretty big order. plus all the profit from maintenance, repair, parts, etc etc.
benefit of using stock cars is maintenance is much cheaper.

this car looks way too aggressive and intimidating. we wouldn't want our police departments to turn into Detroit PD from Robocop.

"dangerously retrofitted" ...the hell? That is total crap. You know what was actually dangerous? The too long bolts on the Ford Crown Vics that pierced the gas tanks when the cop car was rear-ended. That was in the stock vehicle and the local mechanics had to grind them down for safety.

You know what had a big impact on crime and such in our city? Increased foot patrols, this way the police are more visible and you actually get to meet them face to face, instead of a pair of sunglasses driving around in a car.

They were Ford Taurus's in Robocop, so I don't think there is any danger of that.
