It chose man...? HA!

You could say the same thing about flowers and lab mice then, couldn't we?

Cats are with us today because we allowed them to be with us and rewarded their service. Felines were mainly vermin killers while dogs were alarms and hunting companions. We rewarded cat's independent personality so that they could hunt down rats, which by the way, we wouldn't eat.

While we rewarded dog's ability to take commands and follow up on it. They were used to safeguard livestocks and hunt down food that human can eat. You wouldn't reward individualistic traits so that the dog would eat the food by itself or prey on its own livestocks that it's suppose to protect.

Different function for different animals.

But that being said, cats are becoming much more domesticated these days since they are no longer required to be so much of vermin killers, but just simply as a cute pet.
