Morrowind - trailer

a staggeringly good game, which was followed by Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Morrowind > Oblivion

My Argonian Scout was so much fun to play, full glass armor, enchanted Daedric longsword, scrolls and potions up the wazoo... Too bad I got that cursed sword when I was about level 35 and my light armor went down to 0, that was it for that character...

Oblivion was a console game ported to PC.

I was so disappointed when the amazing interface from Morrowind was scraped for clunky crap that formed the UI in Oblivion.

Then there was that bug that made that cult leader appear near the King when I completed a quest, and I was catapulted to the end of the game.

The graphics were great, but the love wasn't there for me. I had much more fun in Morrowind.

Morrowind > Oblivion
for the most part, yeah. except for the obvious rendering and physics improvements, and the additional voice talent.

> My Argonian Scout was so much fun to play...
Khajit. my bootless brother-in-arms! also a (slightly modified) Scout. heh.
'McCoy', named after my favorite of the X-Men. (The Beast of Balmora!)
> ... full glass armor,
same. which looked positively kickass on those two races.
> enchanted Daedric longsword,
i went with the Katana.
> scrolls and potions up the wazoo...
self-enchanted items, and potions up the wazoo...
> Too bad I got that cursed sword when I was about level 35 and my light armor went down to 0, that was it for that character...
heh. that's about how far i got with him, too. then i rolled another character and started all over again. and with that toon, did literally every quest in the entire game, that wasn't prevented by previous quests. plus Tribunal & Bloodmoon, which were both great extensions.
took about a billion screencaps, which were on that hard drive, when it essploded last month. except for the 50 i had uploaded to a FB page album, for a friend who had never heard of the game.

a truly non-linear RPG, and tragically that was the flaw for me

having given me absolutely no motivation and little direction, the game was very short for me. i tried so hard too, played and explored even though i didn't understand why or what i was doing. eventually stole everything from a large town, sold it for huge profit, and then realised that i was none the wiser, and the money could only buy me things that i had no use for.

further shown, imo, by the guy who completed the game by combining certain potions and speedflying/speedrunning to the "end" such as it was, and potion pwning the "final objectives" such as they were.

this comment well go down badly, but there it is.. the game never did enough to hook me either at the start or when i tried playing on.. and in fact i don't think there's been an RPG since baldur's gate (was fallout before or after? except fallout, then) that actually grabbed me by the lapels and shook me

the story of durlag's tower (expansion) was the best story i've ever experienced in a game!

Wow Danny, I humbly suggest that the genre is not for you then. It does make sense when you read what everyone has to say and get into the spirit of the time. Morrowind has so many different peoples that see things in their own way and when you tap into that and develop your own perception, you get sucked in like you wouldn't believe.

My second character was a custom Wood Elf, but he was overpowered by level 15. Took him into Tribunal, however, and that was a riot. Could never get into Bloodmoon for some reason, don't know why.
