Mister Rogers Goodbye

"I got into television because I hated it so. And I thought there was some way of using this fabulous instrument to be of nurture to those who would watch and listen."

“Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.”

“How sad it is that we give up on people who are just like us.”

"Of course, I get angry. Of course, I get sad. I have a full range of emotions. I also have a whole smorgasbord of ways of dealing with my feelings. That is what we should give children. Give them ... ways to express their rage without hurting themselves or somebody else. That's what the world needs."

"We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes."

- Fred Rogers

Any time I read about him and the things he did, I get a little misty. The man was utterly amazingly squeaky clean. It seems like he was probably the most absolutely kindest person on the planet ever. He was a mind-bogglingly kind, uncynical, and caring human being, and seems to have been 100% consistant with it.

Crap, I just watched the "tribute" video below, and now I'm all choked up.
