Marijuana Legalization Support At All Time High - TYT

YouTube Description:

Despite a record high level of support for marijuana legalization in America (according to polls by Rasmussen and Gallup), it appears President Obama may look to export anti-terrorist tactics to fight the war on drugs when he speaks at the Summit of the Americas. According to The Raw Story "...South American leaders will demand that the U.S. hear their arguments on drug legalization. Much as the U.S. argues for specialized tactics and military force to counter the drug gangs, South American nations like Colombia — a key U.S. military ally — are pushing for a less violent approach to counter the cartels that works through simple economics. Specifically, legalization would undercut the gangs' profits tremendously, which many believe would have a pacifying effect on the supply-side marketplace, currently drenched in blood from Peru to Mexico's northern border. Former presidents of Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and even one former U.S. Secretary of State all agree that America's drug war has failed and a new strategy is needed...". The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Coffee, Sugar and alcohol are some of the worst substances commonly used by humans... Whatever you think about illegal substances the war against them for sure does a huge amount of damage in order to maybe stop some possible danger.

Coffee? Everything I've ever heard about coffee says that there are actual health benefits to drinking it as long as it's done in moderation.

I posted about this before, so many of the problems that drugs create are actually created by the War On Drugs.

Governments can't beat drug dealers, but Capitalism can. If Tesco's sold Fair Trade Cannabis, drug dealers would be utterly screwed in no time. Plus, farmers in Columbia/Afghanistan/etc would have a legitimate market, which would erode the illegal market, in turn decimating FARC/Taliban/etc's income and ability to operate. I saw one report that said half of the Afghan Taliban's $3B annual income is from heroin and cannabis sales.

The financial implications would be vast, tax revenue for governments would be a big help while the money, and therefore power, of drug cartels shrinks. There would be even more horrific violence here as cartels look to consolidate on their remaining business, I shudder to think of how the Zetas, the Tijuana Gang and the Juarez Cartel among others in Mexico would respond and it would take considerable political strength to get through.

Is legalising drugs the answer to peace on earth? The war on drugs is subsidising organised crime.

yes another WAR in the name of PROFIT
Quite supported by the rather large industries of alcohol, tobacco, and private prisons.

But there is another issue here. Drugs that are psycho-actives - like pot, lsd, dmt, psylocybin, MDMA,(and, coincidnetally, caffeine) allow the brain to make associations that aren't typically apparent while sober. In other words, you start seeing things differently...from a different perspective. You begin to question.

And questioning is a very dangerous thing to the ruling elite.

and i'm pretty sure Obama is bright enough to understand that the drug war is a bust, and that many many brilliant minds including Sir Francis Crick (modeled DNA while on LSD) and Steve Jobs (acid head) have essentially used (to the great benefit of humanity) what amounts to "smart drugs"

but Obama is in the business of maintaining a vast Empire. This supersedes his tendencies towards logical policy.

Division is how the ruling elite maintains their order.
and Obama is the public representation of the ruling elite.

The solution remains in an informed populace.
