Man on bike mowed down during filming of COPS (@1:45)

WARNING: SEE NOTE IN NEXT COMMENT RE: NSFW

It's painful to watch the injured man, but inspiring to see the professionalism of the cop.

Ironic that the original traffic stop was for a cracked windshield in the red car, seeing what happened afterwards.

This is one of those posts that I don't really see a channel for (although *action would no doubt cover it).

@LadyBug: perfectly understandable.

Heck, I said "professional" not "great".

@youdiejoe (do you like, have something against joedirt? <grin>, good point. I really should wear my helmet more often - and if this doesn't encourage me to ultimately save my life, what will?

[Krupo plans to buy snazzy new helmet at next bike show]

Cause they don't know what happened, what i heard, is he looked at the person who hit him, then looked at the cop stopping someone, then must have cut in front of the white car.
Just a big ol mess of accident

i heard a statistic recently about how cops have a pretty short life expectancy compared to most other professions. after seeing this, i'm not suprised. the guilt that that cop must have experienced alone (cuz if his car wasn't there the accident mightn't have happened) must have been pretty stressful, let alone being part of the whole thing. also, he's overweight and probably at risk for heart disease. maybe he overeats to deal with the stress of his job.

I was wondering the same thing, I've been pulled over a few times in my life and never been told to put my hands on the wheel, but we also don't know what he pulled up when he ran the plates, but he did assume that they were trouble from the start.

"So why was the passenger hand-cuffed, is that standard procedure?"

Most likely for safety reasons. There is a lot going on in that scene and IF the 2 guys are criminals and/or have weapons this makes them more secure.
Also if this is in a known high crime or gang area, it may be standard procedure.
Also, the driver of the red car may be arrested because the officer knows he is driving on a suspended license. The driver of the other car may have been just involved in an accident and nothing criminal in which case there is no cause for an arrest. (Remember the officer didn't actually see the whole accident, nor did the camera.)

I'm disgusted. The cyclist gets creamed because the driver is looking at the car that is pulled over. I have been rear ended by a car on my bike, and in my case and in most others, driver inattention is usually the cause. That is in rear end collisions. Please don't comment on the stupid cyclists entirely unaware of traffic laws involved in other types of accidents. There is no reason for overtaking or rear end accidents other than rubbernecking and driver inattention. unfortunately, the person who suffers the least is the one who causes the accident, and is most likely to survive unscathed.

The cop should not have had the car pull over after hitting the pedestrian. He should havekept it where it was so they could calculate how far from the car the victim got thrown. What angle and the whole shpiel.
