Lt. Daniels calmly sticks it to Burrell (Wire Season 1 ep12)

A fantastic scene, that combination of great acting and writing. Love how Daniels handles Burrell.
The Wire proved you don't need the police to pull their guns to be enthralling.

Lt. Daniels was great in this, but he also looks like a fucking alien.

Also I never understood this too much, if a guy who works for you is fucking with you, and you're already dirty as hell just fucking kill him. I think people in these shows talk too dramatically but don't kill enough, I want to see some guy just go insane and blow away half the fucking force and get away with it because it's fiction dammit!

Also the Wire is the greatest thing ever on television...only because M*A*S*H went on too long though.

Issy and I just finished this entire series last night. 10/10 - it's a brilliant doctoral-thesis-level analysis of the criminal justice system from top to bottom. This should be required viewing for every politician and every citizen that gives a damn.

Definitely one of the greatest things ever on television.

Yogisays...

It's disgustingly good isn't it. It offends me because it has no right to be as good as it is, AND no Emmys.

Totes. Simon's journalist background really sets his storytelling style apart from other shows. I bet the Emmy people felt more comfortable giving statues to people who cut their chops in TV than to a reporter.

Have you seen Treme? Same narrative style, but more upbeat and optimistic. Great music too.

No but because of this I did want to check Treme out. Stupid tons of good things to watch and no time to watch them OVER AND OVER like I do.

Didn't like Treme half as much as I enjoyed The Wire. It just doesn't seem relevant... (not unlike how i feel about the Federal government after Katrina)

If you like this, check out the British original that it's based on. It's called 'The Bill".

Gripping reality-based television. Got to watch it right from the beginning in, like, 1974 or something.
