It's gotten to the point where I write off as insane anyone who professes a sincere belief in god. "Self hypnosis" is damn right. "Self importance" is another big aspect of it. Religious people hold themselves up as humble, while carrying on in the most hubristic, self-serving ways.

The thing that really bugs be about today's casual christians is most of them use their religion as an excuse to go around acting like total shitheads in certain cases. "God will forgive me for any sin, so it's okay to lie, cheat, and steal so long as I'm not killing anyone."
