Katrina Gun Confiscation

In times of crisis you can kiss your Constitutional Rights goodbye. In the wake of Katrina, which was more important? Humanitarian relief or gun control? This is what happens when you think government needs to protect you.

I'm really confused though how neither the reporters or troops seemed to think about the constitutionality of what they're doing.

I'm not thinking the fundamental problem is with government protecting us, I'm thinking the fundamental problem is when government flagrantly exceeds its authority.

Fat lot of good the guns they had did them when troops came with M16's to take their guns, huh?

BTW, I wonder if there's footage of Blackwater troops doing this? That's much more legitimate, since they're making a profit off sticking M16's into the faces of hurricane survivors. No constitutional problems there, they're just exercising their right to bear arms against their fellow citizens. Not their fault Uncle Sam is picking up the tab at the end of the day.

This boils my blood. Let someone try to take my gun from me when I've done nothing but sit in my home.

They (the victims) should have sued the fucking city.

And the National "Guard" setting up base camp in the church?
So, you couldn't get a hold of the pastor, so you just let yourselves the fuck in?
EVER HEARD OF A FUCKING TENT?!?!
And you left a note? How sweet of you. Too bad notes don't cover the fucking bills I'm sure the parish had to pay to get your nasty boot prints cleaned up off the carpets.

GOD I hate the National Guard. The worst fucking troops this nation has. Piss poor training, even worse discipline, and absolutely no idea how to behave like a military unit.

Probably important to point out that those aren't soldiers. There were a lot of Blackwater goons there too.

A story I heard, totally anecdotal, probably untrue...

Many businesses were price-gouging during the Katrina catastrophe, if they weren't outright looted. One grocer stayed open and sold what he had at regular price and was only able to do so because there were several employees with shotguns in plain sight. Blackwater arrived and took the weapons. Within an hour the place was ashes.

I'd be doing a little cold, dead fingers myself probably. If there was ever an occasion to need a gun, after all.
