Very appropriate song for today.
NordlichReitersays...I have an interesting story about this song, i dont know if its true. A freind of mine told me it when we were jamming at a BBQ.
He said: Johnny cash didnt write the song, but the man who did write the song wanted cash to play it. He wanted cash to play it so bad that he hired a chopper to fly him out to where cash was playing golf. The pilot was questioning the mans sanity because he was drunk, and had a glass of bourbon with him. But the money was good so there they were landing on the green were cash was putting. Kris got out of the chopper and stumbled several times, and handed cash the song. Cash was later reputed to have said: The only reason i took the song was because when the drunk bastard came out of the chopper he didnt spill a single drop of bourbon.
This is a hand me down story, and i dont know if its true, but its great. BTW the man who wrote the song was Kris Kristopherson, and became a member of the highwaymen.
sbchapmsays..."One of Kristofferson’s musical heroes was Johnny Cash, who inspired Kristofferson’s “The Pilgrim.” After several unsuccessful attempts to pitch Cash the song “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” Kristofferson finally got his attention by piloting a helicopter and landing it in Cash’s yard. The song became a #1 country hit for Cash and the CMA’s 1970 Song of the Year." This is from http://www.countrymusichalloffame.com/site/inductees.aspx?cid=136#
I'd heard this story but forgot it. Thanks.
