I wish I'd lived through the artistic renaissance of 60's/70's. Hopefully there will be another one before I die.

I know this kind of free and indulgent talk is completely out of step with the times, but fuck it, I love John Cage. If people find this interesting, I'll try to dig up some of his pieces. He wrote some amazing stuff for prepared piano, percussion, household objects and just about any object or instrument you could imagine.

Note: I have no idea what the second half of the video is about.

people make a big deal about some tune he did that was just silence for 4mins. alt rock bands do that all the time, it's neither creative or not, but to make a big deal out of it is just the height of stupidity. as if it's like the emperor's new clothes or something, they're all mad!!

It's not especially creative to copy John Cage; but to be John Cage is something else! The piece you refer to, 4'33", was basically his hit single and in 1952 it was revolutionary.

But you are in good company in dismissing him as the "emperor's new clothes". Cage is probably second only to Andy Warhol as the target of that accusation.
