Farhad2000says...Jeff Mills is an influential African-American Techno DJ and producer from Detroit. His albums and EPs are mostly separate tracks of his compositions, which Mills would mix into the live DJ sets for which he became a legend. Mills has been credited for his exceptional turntable skills. Tracks are almost chopped to bits to showcase the strongest fragments for his relentless sound collages.
Three decks, a Roland 909 drum-machine and seventy records in one hour: at breakneck speed Mills manipulates beats and basslines, vinyl and frequencies. The live album Mix-Up Volume 2 is a highly-regarded example of Mills' 1990's stage show (recorded at the Liquid Room in Tokyo). For a later live show (in 2004) try the 'Exhibitionist' album, of which this is a live mix.
I heard the Bells years ago from AudioGalaxy, and 2 years back I saw him live at Aria in Montreal for the first time and he totally blew my mind. One of my fav. Techno DJs.

djsunkidsays...OH man. This is WICKED! I was looking for a good video of Jeff Mills' legendary skills to sift. This is perfect. Thanks farhad!
djsunkidsays...For guys like this, two turntables are just boring. Watch the fader work. Usually a DJ fades tracks in and out. He's got a track's bass eq'd off, and the rest at 1/2 volume, and he just lets it play- the mids and highs become components of the other track. Not satisfied with simply being a technically perfect DJ, Mills is using his skill to create an amazing amalgam of different records.
While the 2manyDJs crew may have gimmacky mashups galore, it is truely amazing when you see a master actual doing the layering, as opposed to just using ableton or whatever.
I don't know how well this will do on the sift, but if I could upvote+100 i would. great job.
benjeesays...Fantastic Sift Farhad; and I agree with comments (above) - contrary to some award Carl Cox recieved a while ago: Jeff Mills is the best Techno DJ by a big distance (The Bells, damn - not heard that in a whlie).
Farhad2000says...Added flair to attract attention.
Goes mental at 14:00.
mt256says...This is nice. I like techno (Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman - his DE9 record reminds me of this) but dont know too many big names. I'm def. gonna check more out! Thanks!
Is it just me or is there a noticable slowdown (syncing the right most deck) at 1:25 ?
And a final note about DJ's. I think people dont realize the distinction between being a DJ and a PRODUCER. Any old goon can be a decent DJ and get the crowd pumped, but it's the producers - the people that create the records - that have the talent. Producers are almost always DJ's though
This is definitely a new level of DJ'ing though. Definite talent here.
In the drum n bass world, Andy C is known for his DJ skills - double drops, teasing tracks in only for a few seconds.. relentless. Curious? check out his Nightlife series of albums.
