btw, who's joe, and why does he have to die?

It refers to lines from WWII films, most all of the Japanese soldiers would say it in broken English "YOU DIE JOE". A Favorite of the MST3K fellas in the early years... you can hear it at 26 seconds into this clip MST3K 312 - Gamera vs Guiron
