First minutes of "Ilha Das Flores", considered by many the best brazilian documentary ever made.
"This is not a work of fiction.
A place called Isle of Flowers exists.
God doesn´t exist."
from the wikipedia:
The narrator explains all the film in a deadpan and "scientific" way. It starts with Mister Suzuki who has a tomato plantation. He sells his tomatoes to a supermarket for money that then sells some to Mrs. Anete, who is a perfume sales woman (the perfumes are extracted from flowers), for money. Later, she throws away one of Suzuki's tomatoes in the garbage, because she considered it to be inadequate for the sauce of the pork that she was preparing for her family's dinner. The tomato and the trash are transported to Isle of Flowers (Ilha das Flores), Porto Alegre's landfill. There, organic material from the garbage that, where judged adequate, will be given to pigs by the owner. What was considered inadequate (including Mister Suzuki's tomato) for the pigs, can finally be used as food by poor women and children.
In Portuguese, no subs - still, it sounds great and worth-a-watching.
