The statements at the end were particularly damning, essentially accusing the U.S. of stifling the very "progress" we're supposedly there to produce.

I know as a Sunni, he's generally an outsider in the current Iraq government, so I wonder if that's truth, or just Iraqi politics being played like ours.

However, us being lied to in that way by our government is totally consistent with how this war has been conducted so far. Though if what he says is true, it'd manage to shock me anew.

Upvote for one of the better pieces I've seen from theREALnews. They're always more informative than our media, but usually there's a lot of editorializing with a lot of opinion being mixed in. Reminds me of just how sad mainstream media's coverage has been when I can't remember the last time they interviewed actual, influential Iraqi citizen's about the situation.

I find it interesting that the Kurds are still played as bad guys in this, as they suffered the most under Saddam. Shows just how long the underlying division he created will take to go away. Khalaf's remarks at the very end though were much more opinion than statement of fact, unlike the rest of what he said. It's important to hear his opinion of American motivations, but that doesn't make them factual. It is extremely important though and shows a major step forward the US needs to make to gain support of the people. Persuading them that the US is serious about rebuilding a real and independent Iraqi military might get support from guys like Khalaf.
