"We'll pray for you" is NOT generally a sign of goodwill, it's usually used as a punctuation so that the uncomfortable party can get away from an arguement they may very well wish to avoid. It's the religious way to say "Fuck you, I'm taking my ball and going home."

Also, about the "In God we trust" on money? If someone has a problem with that and is willing to make a big deal about it in front of strangers then they really need to grow up/get laid. If "Athiest Boyfriend" uses that as a conversational springboard then he's already a douchebag.
