During the September 2011 earthquake in DC. 500+ feet up in a tiny tower.

That story about them having to stop building it during the Civil War and then resuming afterwards is pretty much the only story there is to tell about the Washington Monument...

Well, that, and the reason it's shaped like a giant phallus.
