Oh my, that is skillful and soulful playing there. Using the spoon to play slide on the top strings, and normal fingerpicking on the rest is just spectacular. This is going on del.icio.us and my local bookmarks for sure.

I came across this video a while back- from memory I recall that the guitarist is an "aloe tapper"- he taps the large aloe plants for their juice- you can see the plants behind him. The site claimed that Coetzee is the only known guitarist known to use this technique. I tell you, I'd buy this on CD in a heartbeat. Maybe we can send Ry Cooder down to South Africa to get Coetzee and some of his buddies to cut an album! It worked for cuban music!

Update to my post of 2 minutes ago- further research reveals that the style of music is called "Karoo Kitaar Blues". It seems that film-maker and musician David Kramer has pulled a Ry Cooder and filmed and recorded Coetzee and several other practitioners of this South-African style. I, on the other hand, will be searching for a Torrent.
