Joseph Robertson was an infantryman in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. The stark black and white images in this short haunt the viewer, just as Robertson is haunted by his memories from that battle. Directed by The Rauch Brothers for Story Corps.

I remember reading something a while back that suggested that the vast vast majority of Soldiers simply don't aim to kill. Something like 90% deliberately pointed their sights into the sky instead of firing on the enemies presumed position. I'm not sure I believe that figure, but when you hear stories like this it does make you wonder if this particular Soldier ever fired his gun at an enemy again.

Now we'd only have to get that number to 100%.
