At the age of 14, Adu became the youngest professional athlete in modern American team sports history when he signed a professional contract with Major League Soccer, the top league of the United States soccer pyramid.

Some other facts that were not mentioned are below if you are interested.

Freddy Adu went on to score a hat trick (Three Goals in one game for the non-sport fans). Each goal was a work of art but the one in the clip above takes the cake.

Poland scored first in the 5th minute only to have the US tie it up again moments later.

By halftime the score was 3 USA - 1 POL. USA would go on to score 3 more to win it with a final score of 6-1.

This game was a group stage match in the U-20 World Cup which is being hosted by Canada this time.

Do we (the USA) stand any chance in the next World Cup? I used to watch the Cosmos during the era of Pele, Chinagalia, and Beckenbauer, and hope that they'd inspire US soccer to be big one day. Is this kid a Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo? Is he that good?

Exciting nonetheless.
