Florida Highway Patrol Accidentally PITs Police Captain

On November 29, 2023, at approximately 10:35 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) received reports of a car fleeing a traffic stop and driving recklessly. In response, Trooper Walner Wroy activated his lights and sirens, initiating a search for the vehicle.

A few minutes later, FHP Trooper Wroy identified a dark-colored KIA Stinger speeding along State Road 826 and weaving through traffic. He reasonably assumed it was the car he was pursuing. The following dashcam footage captures the events that unfolded thereafter.

There is no explanation for why the captain was speeding at such high rates of speed and weaving in and out of traffic dangerously without lights or siren in alleged pursuit of a phantom vehicle never seen on the dash cam despite a clear field of view, no explanation for turning on his lights after being crashed, and no car was being followed when the Captain suddenly accelerates and dodges off the freeway in what looks like an escape attempt, blacked out or no. His excuse isn’t backed up by the footage.
