Chuck Yeager was on this commission. When he heard the evidence he said, "Shucks, just don't launch when it's cold" and quit the commission.

The interesting thing about this explanation is the committee heard from the Nasa engineers who were explaining it in an overly complicated way. Trying it seemed to confuse the committee and corrupt it in some way. Feynman I believe on the committee just had a glass of ice water and demonstrated it for the committee right then and there. Breaking the deadlock of those damn eggheads!
