Female Genital Mutilation is Not a Question of Culture

Culture should never be used to justify anything. Cultures are never a constant, so it should be no moral problem in throwing destructive cultures in the garbage heap of history.

where's that one with .. hitchens and that rabbi, where the rabbi makes a fucking stupid comment about his sons circumcision.. and hitchens throws the logic of what he says in his face.

then the rabbi just wants to play it off, and have an exception for his behavior.. even though religion doesn't ever do the same for some groups...

..it was pretty fucking good. ill find it.

I might miss mine too if I could remember it... did you lose yours to a bet in college or something? And the winner wore it around his finger until it fell off? Gross.

yeah circumcision is just as bad. i think the problem is circumcised people also try "compensate" by forcing it onto others and shreeking / making bad jokes when others point out how 'unacceptible'/'freakish' they would normally find it. there was a video here , http://www.videosift.com/video/Functions-of-the-Prepuce-or-Foreskin-part-1 , that is very informative in regards to what exactly gets lost. definately scary that people do this kind of thing to their poor helpless kids. they definately alter the sexual function of their child and will never experience the full sexual experience. look if people want to do that to themselves then sure, go ahead we're all adults and you can decide for yourself but a bloody child? .... have you watched a circumcision. how much pain is that poor thing going through? and for what exactly? *scratches head* body modification is a personal choice not some leash your culture puts on you so that you're the same or that other's feel better about their alterations.

I studied female genital mutilation at uni, the problem is that it is so much associated with the culture (mainly in africa) that the women choose to do it knowing exactly how painful and debilitating it is to them. It is similar to a peer pressure kind of vibe, when you have the procedure done you are more accepted in the community and also have the ability to form a sexual relationship. Girls who have not had the procedure are frowned upon by boys. The worst thing about it really comes down to sanitation and what methods and tool are used in the process.
