Erich Fromm, German-American psychoanalyst and social critic, talks to Mike Wallace about western society, materialism, relationships, government, religion, and happiness.

Dr. Fromm was a brilliant man and I think his observations are still very much relevant in present day society. Well worth a look-see.
Bloocutsays...

Fromm the expatriate soul. Bound and determined by a drive residing in a place of human evolution without pollution-Stranger in a strange land, idealist not unlike Tesla, Fuller (Akhenaten=inbred with a good heart) if you will-No wonder the Nazis scared the ever-living fuck out of him

rougysays...

It's almost as if he were speaking anathema.

I have to give credit to Wallace for not pulling an O'Reilly.

Fromm said nothing out of malice, and he was very guarded with his definition of socialism.

And frankly, his summation of the USSR at the time was spot on. What did he say? A state-run capitalism?

rabidnesssays...

I find this interview quite relevant to our modern usa society. Many of the problems that were expressed are still pressing on and with increased effect. Fromm really hit the nail on the head.
