Do Vaccines Cause Autism? A Detailed Examination

Bryan here is, and I quote from his YouTube profile: "a medial researcher (i.e. scientist) by profession. Officially speaking I've got a BSc in cellular, molecular and microbial biology, and a PhD in medical sciences, but my scientific interests extend well beyond what those would suggest."

This is part 2 of his video series on Vaccinations, and this one specifically deals with the Autism/Vaccination Controversy. It's an interesting, and in-depth, look at what the Anti-Vaccination Groups have done in response to the studies that have been done looking for a causal link between Vaccinations and Austim, and what those studies have found.

"So they then went on to a pretty extravagant claim, and that claim was that ANY vaccine causes autism..."

Part II of my series on vaccination.

In this episode I address the question "is autism is caused by vaccination" and look at the scientific evidence that says "yes" and "no". I refer to a series of papers in this video - the links for these papers can be found below.

For the sake of simplicity I have redrawn all graphs so that they are easily understood. I have made every effort to keep them as accurate as possible.

Wakefield Paper: Link.

Wakefield Retraction: Link.

Fombonne Paper: Link.

Japan MMR Paper: Link.

Autism gene found in Amish Paper: Link.

Also, for those of you who believe that the Amish, and other anabaptist sects (all of whom avoid vaccination), I'd like for you to explain why it is that people who supposedly don't get autism have an autism support network: Link.

Good video, although not 100% definitive, it is still very convincing that there is no link. Really, it shouldn't be a hard thing to prove: if someone, somewhere has gotten autism without ever being vaccinated, the vaccine-autism link is dead.

But Autism itself is still something of a mystery. Is it not an entirely modern disease? And are the rates not rising? Maybe this was a lie, but I read somewhere that Autism rates in primitive societies, like isolated jungle tribes are non-existent.

One of the more convincing theories that I read is that there could be a link between autism and TV, as infants cannot determine the difference between 2D and 3D and TV messes with their minds.

People have trouble interpreting risk. Even if there is a link to autism, which is rare at any rate, how does that compare to nobody being vaccinated? Vaccinations aren't only for you, they're for everyone around you too. A way to look at it is people who don't want their children vaccinated for fear of autism, but rely on everyone else's children being vaccinated to prevent their child from contracting a nasty disease that they might otherwise avoid.

Maybe it's the fluoridation sapping and impurifying our precious bodily fluids. Yes. That seems more likely.

If you are in Vaccines cause autism camp, then I recommend the following:

1. Write your congressman and tell him/her to fund and support research to determine if there is a link.

2. Talk to a scientist and ask them about your questions.

3. Go to a library and read peer-reviewed scientific papers on the subject (as opposed to I don't know reading ramblings on the internet by someone who attended a 2-year college and posed for playboy.)

4. Get samples of vaccines and send them off to be analyzed via mass spectrometry, yourself. WOW... what... I know I said. There are places that will do a mass spec analysis on anything you send them:

http://marketing.appliedbiosystems.com/ etc.

Be sure to send them a control. Like DI water (not from your Brita) or methanol, i.e. something that you know is pure.
See for yourself if there are indeed vaccines in them.
