The whole point is that we are the USA. We were founded on the idea of liberty and human rights. When we put that stuff "on hold" through bullshit methods like torturing people "out of sight" in places like Gitmo, we devalue the specific things which made this country great. Does it make it harder to fight terrorism NOT to torture? Absolutely. But that is the point: REAL freedom is HARDER to achieve than the bullshit the extremist right is trying to sell us now. They are no different than Iran, the Taliban, Kim Jon Il, etc.

Torture works perfectly well if by 'working' you mean 'producing evidence to support the illegal invasion of another country'
