One week after relishing the disaster of the Republican convention, the Democrats disastrously start their own by having the disgraced, forcibly removed DNC (ex)chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz speak to the Florida delegates at a breakfast before she's due to open the convention. Many seemed less than impressed, and she fled surrounded by security, completely ignoring the press.

Chaos erupted as Debbie Wasserman Schultz addressed Florida delegates on Monday, as protesters jeered the outgoing Democratic National Committee chairwoman as she delivered a speech. "So I can see that's little bit of interest in my being here and I appreciate that interest," Wasserman Schultz said amid the cacophony. "And a little bit of interest from the press but that really shows you that Florida is the most significant battleground state that will make sure that Hillary Clinton is elected president of the United States of America. We are the state that will deliver the White House to make sure that we can continue to make the progress that we have been able to make under Barack Obama for the last eight years." The crowd booed Debbie Wasserman Schultz when she started addressing a delegation breakfast this morning in Philadelphia, the morning after she announced that she would resign as the chair of the Democratic National Committee. An event organizer had to actively try and quiet the crowd’s boos before Wasserman Schultz began speaking. This was supposed to be one of the biggest and brightest days for Debbie Wasserman Schultz: day one of the Democratic National Convention to nominate the first female candidate from a major party in American history. Instead, the embattled chair of the DNC has been forced to resign just days after Wikileaks released tens of thousands of incriminating emails that suggest efforts from within to target Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders during the primary. And on Monday morning when Wasserman Schultz got up to speak at a delegate breakfast for her home state of Florida, she was met with exactly the reaction you would expect: a crowd of overly enthusiastic boos, jeers, and taunts. “Thank you so much! Good morning Florida!” Wasserman Schultz said through a forced smile in the face of her detractors. “It is so wonderful to be able to be here in my home state.” She eventually pleaded, “Alright everybody now settle down please.” At one point a leading delegate in the room had to take to the podium in an effort to calm the crowd, urging the people in the room to ease up on Wasserman Schultz so that, “Debbie can speak.” She finally earned some cheers when she invoked popular leftist policy proposals, like sensible gun legislation and electing Democrats up and down the ballot in November. Progressives from within the party have long opined that the DNC — led specifically from efforts by Wasserman Schultz — attempted to prop up the candidacy of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the face of the unexpected challenge from Sanders. The Vermont Senator became the populist grassroots darling throughout the primaries, taking on Clinton’s establishment ties and Super PAC funding in the process. The boos continued before she eventually acknowledged her resignation.
