I think this is caused by 70's and 80's and 90's kids growing up with modern and more mainstream television. As children your fed this whole life is wonderful dogma by uncle tele, and now being all grown up the realization that life is shit makes it ever so important to escape reality. At least it is for myself.

naa, disagree. As you age, your palette either matures, or it doesn't. I can point to specific times when my palette for entertainment matured.

I still love how the TARDIS is bigger on the inside than on the outside for David, too!

Your right. I don't know what I was thinking. What about people with huge variety of tastes. I go from Harry Potter to French Dramas. Really a whole broad spectrum of films and shows.
