I'll admit I am not as informed on the problems in Darfur as I could be. The last I recall, the UN had made a decision to deploy a heavy force in Darfur to stop the genocide. Has anyone seen an objective report on how that is going? I'm generally fairly negative on UN "peace keepers" (Lebanon, Rwanda, etc.) but I'm curious to see what has been done by the UN recently. Whatever your personal opinions are of the UN, multi-national forces are going to be the only way to stop the killing in the near future.

As for direct action by an individual nation... Good freakin luck. After the US forces were made to look like complete incompetents in Somalia, no nation wants to go near conflicts in this part of the world. You have a choice here, go in and establish a totalitarian government capable (ie: ruthless enough) of enforcing peace and be called imperialist or try to deal with local warlords and establish some semblance of democratic government with the people who are already committing the atrocities still in charge and who are not necessarily your friend. The US has tried both of those in recent memory and neither has seemed to work out so well.
