Coulter stands by controversial word used to describe Obama

YouTube Description:

Ann Coulter sat down with Piers Morgan tonight to explain her controversial tweet calling President Obama a "retard" this week. After talking about racism in America and conservative positions on abortion, Coulter defended her usage of the word and its context, railing against the people criticizing her for using what many disabled people would say is an offensive word.

Morgan first brought up the issue of race, a major subject of her newest book. He brought up John Sununu's comment on his show last night suggesting Colin Powell voted for Obama because of his race. Coulter played down the significance of what Sununu said, arguing that JFK was supported by Irish Catholics just because of his religion. Coulter said that the United States does not have a serious problem with racism, saying a bigger problem is how much people play up the issue of racism. In the next segment, Morgan brought up comments made by Richard Mourdock about rape. Coulter said Republicans like Mourdock need to accept that many people believe rape is an important exception in any anti-abortion position. She downplayed the significance of striking down Roe v. Wade, saying the issue would just go back to the states.Morgan then brought up Coulter's controversial tweet this week that Obama looked like a "retard" ...

I learned you can always rely on Piers Morgan to defend the mentally deficient's monopoly on terms that offend them from falling in the wrong hands and holding them accountable.

And maybe he'll just listen in on their phone calls too just to be sure.

I dislike her and don't agree with any of her blunt, rude comments BUT the word retard has a definition and can used as such.

re·tard 1 (r-tärd)
v. re·tard·ed, re·tard·ing, re·tards
v.tr.
To cause to move or proceed slowly; delay or impede.
v.intr.
To be delayed.
n.
1. A slowing down or hindering of progress; a delay.
2. Music A slackening of tempo.

The word does not mean stupid - it means "To move slowly" and may be used in reference to someone who responds slowly. A very intelligent person can retard the process to get a clear perspective on the situation or to stonewall.
I use retardant in my paint so it drys slower.

Even used as a derogatory term, the word at best, means one is slow. I don't agree with her using the term in the way she did and she was clearly lashing out like a child having a temper tantrum but to the meaning of the word itself, I see so issues here.

Piers needs to let this one go and move on.

STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO HER.

Stop sifting videos with her in them. Stop voting for them. Stop watching the videos on other sites. Stop writing her angry emails.

Haven't you people ever trained a dog? Negative attention is still attention. IGNORE HER.

Same goes for Piers Morgan.

Hmmm the only problem with this argument is that right underneath the section of the website you quoted there's this:

re·tard 2 (rtärd)
n. Offensive Slang
1. Used as a disparaging term for a mentally retarded person.
2. A person considered to be foolish or socially inept.

Now I'm all for free speech, even offensive free speech when it has something important or meaningful to say but this is the entirety of Anne's tweet: “I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.”

Which to me lacks any real substance and says nothing of consequence or importance. In fact its just plain nasty and shallow.
