A White House official says President Barack Obama will go to the Gulf Coast soon for a firsthand update on efforts to contain the massive oil spill from an offshore drilling rig. (May 1, 2010, Associated Press.)

Though only a few days old, the current estimate for the volume of oil spilled may be outdated already. It seems possible that the disaster may yet eclipse the severity of the Exxon Valdez.

last I heard its 8000 barrels a day, yesterday was 5000

they don't think they can tap it for another 60 to 90 days

which is

20.1 to 30.2 million gallons total

(10.8 million for Exxon Valdez, though the oil was more toxic)
